The idea behind this unit is to provide both a cardio and strength training workout in the same session. To accomplish this, the Reebok 8000C comes with 6 built-in cross training workouts that– when combined with the included 2-lb. hand weights–provide a total body workout. There are also 9 “weight loss” workouts 9 including 300, 400, 500 and 600 calorie workouts–plus a 1 lb. Per Week workout.

For a treadmill on the lower end of the pricing spectrum, we were impressed with some of the features that come standard on the Reebok 8000 C. You’ll get the AirShock™ Cushioning System that Reebok touts will reduce impact by up to 28%, a built-in workout fan and an integrated heart rate monitor system.

Our favorite feature on this machine was the Interactive CrossTrainer system. This program provides visual prompts on the console for the user to perform a variety of strength training exercises.

Some things we didn’t feel were quite up to snuff include the limited 90-day warranty on parts and labor and the smallish 19-inch treadbelt width. Aside from those, we felt this machine would be quite adequate for a beginning user. The built-in programs are challenging and unique and–overall–the standard features are on the upper end of what you’d expect in this price range.

DEAL ALERT: The Horizon T92 is on sale from $1,099 to $799. It comes with a Lifetime Warranty on the Motor and the Frame! Click here.

For the select few quality treadmills that come in under $1,000, the Horizon T92 Treadmill is right there with the best. There are some good deals, and this treadmill is one of them. The Horizon T92 comes with a 2.25 CHP motor, which can tolerate lots of use from power walkers and light joggers.

One thing we did notice however was the weight limit. Even though the manufacturer states that this machine can handle up to 325 pounds, it probably wouldn’t stand up to that much weight for long. We would recommend a more expensive, heavier treadmill for users above 230 pounds.

A nice characteristic about this treadmill is that it comes with 13 workout programs, which allows you to vary your workouts. That’s quite a choice of programs for a treadmill in this category. With so much variety, you can constantly switch up your routine and never become bored.

TTR Recommendation

With a price tag of just $799, this treadmill still offers some nice features you wouldn’t normally find in this price category. The Horizon T92 offers their COMFORTselect™ adjustable cushioning for a softer feeling when you run which is nice on your knees. It also offers a wide deck and a durable, 2-ply belt with 20″ x 55″ workout space. Also, for your convenience there’s a speakers and MP3 input, heart rate grips, and cooling fan. Those are things you don’t think about when buying a treadmill but come in handy when you’re in the middle of a workout.

If you’re looking for a treadmill for walking or jogging this is a great treadmill for you. The 2.25 CHP motor is ideal for those types of needs and it comes with lifetime warranty. With a price tag of $799 and a lifetime warranty, that’s pretty tough to beat.

If you’re looking for an affordable treadmill that’s loaded with features, the Cadence 80 is a perfect pick. The Weslo Cadence 80 Treadmill is a decent treadmill for its price. No, it’s not the fanciest , it doesn’t have all the bells & whistles, but it gets the job done.

DEAL ALERT: Buy the Weslo Cadence 80 Treadmill for $399 Today! Click Here to Buy the Weslo Cadence 80 Treadmill.

If you’re a beginner or intermediate walker or jogger then this treadmill will suit you best and so will the price. At $399 it’s pretty hard to beat that price. Also, as all Weslo Treadmills, you’ll get the benefit of the Space Saver® Design. Now you don’t have to sacrifice living room by having a treadmill sitting in your living room. Fold your treadmill up and out of the way when your workout is through.

TTR Recommendation

Overall, this a great treadmill for the “right person”. As we said, if your a walker or jogger, this treadmill will do everything you’re looking for. There’s no reason to spend hundreds more just to have a few more features. When you purchase this treadmill they offer a 1,2 and 3 year warranty on the Weslo Cadence 80 Treadmill. It would be wise to take advantage of the warranty just to be sure you have this treadmill worry free for a few years.

Ah yes, the Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 Treadmill–rolls right off the tongue doesn’t it? Naming conventions aside, Gold’s Gym (a licensed ICON brand) has a reputation for good performance in entry level treadmills and the CrossWalk 650 is no exception.

The biggest selling point for the Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 Treadmill is simply outstanding value. Priced at around $600, this is a well constructed, thoughtfully designed machine. Many entry-level models in this price range are smallish and flimsy. Not so with the Gold’s Gym Maxx. In fact, many complaints involve simply getting the machine home and set up as it is very heavy. Everyone we’ve spoken with has been really impressed by the sheer quality you get with this model compared to others in this category.

The Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 Treadmill features a G-Force 2™ 2.8 HP Drive Motor. We tested this machine and feel like the 2.8 HP rating is a bit of a stretch. Nonetheless, it’s a capeable and quiet motor that moves the user along efficiently at walking and light jogging speeds. If you’re a serious runner, this probably isn’t the machine for you. But if you’re a beginner or someone just looking for a good walking machine, the Maxx will certainly do the job.

One feature we frankly hate is the upper body component to this machine. Yes, the old ICON CrossWalk handles rear their ugly head again. Simply put, the upper body arms are useless unless you’re planning to use them as towel hangers. They really don’t work well and in our opinion they simply detract from an otherwise good walking experience. Our advice is simply to ignore them as a feature when considering this machine.

Some of the features we did enjoy on the Gold’s Gym Maxx are the 20″ x 55″ Treadbelt with AirStride cushioning, the QuickSelect 0-10% incline, the built-in workout fan and iPod dock and the 6 audio workouts that provide verbal coaching to the user.

TTR Recommendation

We give the Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 Treadmill an excellent rating in the “Treadmills under $1,000″ category. This is a solid, well built machine that should provide beginning users with solid performance and reliability. The warranty on the Gold’s Gym Maxx covers the motor for 25 years and parts and labor for one year. This is a solid warranty for the price range, but we would reccommend one of the extended service plans available from the manufacturer.

At the end of your workout you can check your heart rate using the sensors. Built into the handlebars, two sensors will measure your heart rate and then send a signal to the console where your heart rate will be displayed. You will always be able to be within your target heart rate range.

TTR Recommendation

From a quick glance and looking at the list of features this a great beginner and intermediate treadmill. With the cross-training programs included with the treadmill you know you’ll get a great workout and achieve your fitness goals.

Although this treadmill is backed by a reputable brand, Healthrider, we still don’t like the fact that it’s not backed by a Lifetime warranty. Also, if you’re an advanced runner looking to get a good cardio workout through a long period of time this treadmill is only equipped with with 2.25 CHP motor.

Didn’t think Reebok made treadmills? You were right. This treadmill is actually manufactured by the folks at Icon Health & Fitness under a Reebok licensed name. The Reebok 8050 ES Treadmill is an entry-level model in the Reebok line. It features a 2.25 HP motor, 20″ x 55″ running surface and a ton of bells and whistles common to Icon-built machines.

The powerplant on this model is listed as a 2.25 HP TRX™ Commercial Motor. We’re here to tell you this isn’t a commercial-grade motor. In fact, it’s smallish even for home treadmill use. That brings into question the 300-lb weight rating for this model. We put a 220-lb tester on this machine at a medium jog and the motor was definitely straining to keep up. If you’re 220-lbs or more we’d reccomend you look at a differnt treadmill with a larger motor.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, we also thought the 12-year motor warranty on the Reebok 8050 ES was fairly stingy. Quality treadmills usually come standard with a lifetime warranty on the motor and the frame. So 12 years is a bit short…especially for something that’s supposed to be “commercial-grade.”

So what did we like about the Reebok 8050 ES? As mentioned before, these machines come with a slew of gadgets designed to make your workout funner and more efficient. We can appreciate that seeing as treadmill workouts aren’t always action packed. The Reebok 8050 ES features 11 pre-programmed workouts, including 2 that can be customized by the user. The console is well planned and features a 1/4-mile track display that lets you check your progress at a glance. There’s also a built-in workout fan and an integrated pulse-monitor that’s fairly accurate. Last and definitely least are the included 2-lb hand weights complete with their own little cubbies on the console. Cute, but really worthless.

TTR Recommedation

Priced at $799, we feel like the Reebok 8050 ES Treadmill is about $200 more than it should be. What you’re getting for the extra $200 bucks is simply the Reebok name. We feel like the Reebok 8050 ES comes up short in all major performance categories including motor, weight rating and warranty. Yes, you’ll get some nice electronics and a good looking machine, but that’s all a moot point if your treadmill doesn’t perform up to snuff.

ProForm’s CrossWalk models have been around virtually since treadmills became popular for in-home fitness.

Over the last few years we’ve seen dozens of iterations of the CrossWalk come and go…all with the same underwhelming performance and overall poor design. But trust us on this, if they didn’t sell, ProForm wouldn’t keep making them. Likewise, we’ll keep reviewing them.

The ProForm 570 CrossWalk Treadmill is the latest addition to the CrossWalk family. It’s essentially a low-grade treadmill with a pair of moving handles bolted to the frame. The idea behind the 570 CrossWalk is for the user to get an upper body workout while simultaneously exercising their lower body. Great concept…but elliptical trainers do a much better job of actually executing this concept. In fact, if you really want to get an upper body workout on a treadmill, why not just throw in a set of dumbbells? It’s a heck of a lot less complicated and you can spend your money on a better quality treadmill.

A quick look under the hood of the ProForm 570 CrossWalk reaveals a Mach Z™ 2.8 HP Drive Motor. Sounds neat right? On closer inspection, the “Mach Z” is actually a smallish 1.7 continuous-duty horsepower motor—the 2.8 rating referrs to the peak horsepower on this model and we’d say even that is a stretch. If you’re not familiar with the difference between continuous-duty horsepower and peak horsepower, essentially continuous-duty is the horsepower at which the treadmill can efficiently operate at for extended periods of time. Whereas peak horsepower is the max the treadmill can produce at full power for a short time.

The ProForm 570 CrossWalk features a built-in workout fan and integrated heart rate monitor.

A couple of the high points on the ProForm 570 CrossWalk include the 25-year warranty on the motor and 1-year warranty on parts and labor. The motor warranty is sufficient and the full year on parts and labor is definitely above standard for a treadmill in this price range. Other things we liked were the built-in fan, the integrated heart rate monitor and the famous ProForm SpaceSaver™ design that allows the treadmill to fold up for storage.

TTR Recommedation

Just because a manufacturer claims their machine gives you a total body workout doesn’t mean it’s true. And with the ProForm 570 CrossWalk it’s just not the case. The handles are more of a marketing gimic than anything else. If you’re looking to combine a good lower body workout with upper body benefits, you’d be better off with an elliptical trainer or by simply adding dumbbells to your treadmill routine. For the price, the ProForm 570 CrossWalk is on the low end for both quality and performance. But on the upside it does offer a competitive warranty and some nice bells and whistles like a workout fan and a built-in heart rate monitor. Our advice is to shop around before considering the ProForm 570 CrossWalk.

Click here to get more info on the ProForm 570 CrossWalk Treadmill.

Time and time again we mention what a bargain Horizon Fitness offers on their treadmills and the Horizon T901 Treadmill is no exception. The Horizon T901 falls into Horizon’s mid-range treadmills and compared to most mid-range treadmills out there this one stacks up pretty well. We’ve done quite a few in-depth reviews of Horizon treadmills and so far they have delivered with their product and offering a lifetime warranty on all their treadmills makes you feel good about taking the next step in purchasing the treadmill.

DEAL ALERT: The Horizon T901 is regularly priced at $1,999 but you can buy it on sale for $899 at the Horizon Website!

TTR Review

After the initial walk around we could already tell that the Horizon T901 treadmill was a good looking treadmill and the treadmill console was full of features and gadgets. If you’ve been researching Horizon treadmills this treadmill is very similar to the Horizon T1201 Treadmill but is a bit higher in price.

One of the big differences between the two treadmills is the motor. The Horizon T901 treadmill offers a 2.25 CHP motor with a lifetime warranty of course. The power of the treadmill motor is more then adequate enough for walkers, joggers and moderate runners. Also, if you’re a bit taller you may feel like the running deck length is a bit shorter then the T1201. The Horizon T901 offers a 20″X55″ running surface, compared to the 20″x60″ you get with the T1201.

The Horizon T901 also offers a TriFlex™ cushioning system that provides the right mix of shock absorption and support. This is a big feature because most treadmill buyers like to have that sturdy feeling when running on the treadmill.

Lastly, Horizon has made a big breakthrough with integrating your iPod into your treadmill workouts. This treadmill offers a one-of-a-kind treadmill “holster” that charges and controls your iPod!

The T901 makes it easier to push to a new fitness goal. An iPod® dock charges as it plays your workout play list, while the wider speed and incline range lets you take your workout to new levels.

TTR Recommedation

We know the the T901 has all the features and warranty to back itself up but does it really perform when used for its sole purpose? Absolutely. Overall this treadmill is perfectly priced and offers more then most mid-range treadmills offer. With a motor that offers plently of horsepower, a sturdy running deck and a juiced up iPod what else do you need? If you’re looking for a treadmill under $1,000, the Horizon T901 Treadmill might be just what you’re looking for.

Weslo is typically in the lower echelon of treadmill manufacturers. Most of their machines are low-end, bare-bones models that are best for walkers and lighter users. The Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill is essentially the next step up from their manual treadmill models.

The Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill features a 2.25 THP motor. Yes, THP (Total Horsepower or Peak Horsepower)…not to be confused with CHP (Continuous Horsepower). When you see a manufacturer touting THP or peak horsepower, it usually means they’re trying to mask the fact that their treadmill has a tiny motor. In this case the actual continuous-duty horsepower of the C44 is 1.3 CHP…which is barely enough to power a brisk walk for a 130-lb user. Obviously if you plan to do any running at all, this isn’t the machine for you.

Bearing the above in mind, if you’re simply a small person that want to walk every other day, the Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill is a cost-effective option. We’ve heard from many users that enjoy their C44 and really don’t require the advanced features of a more expensive model.

As you might expect, at a $349 price point you won’t get many bells and whistles. Among the features the Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill does have are a manual incline system, digital speed readout, a heart rate monitor (which isn’t very accurate) and Comfort Cell™ cushioning which as far as we could tell was simply a run-of-the-mill low end deck and belt combination.

The Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill touts a 0-10 mph speed rating, which we were leary of. So we put my 95-lb, 12-year old son on the treadmill and sure enough it bogged down at just 6 mph. This also makes it pretty clear the stated 250-lb user capacity is not at all accurate—we wouldn’t recommend anyone over 150-lbs. use this treadmill.

TTR Recommendation

Our recommendation is that you should most likely steer clear of the Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill. If you’re looking for a cost-effective alternative that will last longer and perfom much better, give the Horizon Evolve SG a look. The only way we would recommend this treadmill is for users well under 150-lbs and those looking to strictly walk at slow speeds. Another downside to this machine (and we can personally attest to this) is the assembly time. The Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill is definitely a task to assemble, so be prepared to spend an afternoon turning wrenches. As you might imagine, the C44 doesn’t have the best of warranties either. The motor is covered for a year, parts and labor for 90-days. Weslo doesn’t list any warranty for the frame.

Click here to learn more about the Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill.
