Use Speed Intervals on a Treadmill to Burn more Calories

Running on a treadmill is one of the most effective ways to burn calories. Whether you’re walking at an incline or running on a flat surface it’s safe to say you will burn more then 350 calories in a single workout. I’m here to tell you that number of calories burned can increase in same amount of time.

How? Speed Intervals.

Now you’ve probably heard that changing you weight lifting programs on a consistent basis will help you stay away from plateauing. It’s the same with running on a treadmill. Providing that shock to your body does wonders when it comes to seeing fitness results. In this quick article I want explain how using Speed Intervals can actually help you maximize your treadmill workouts.

Try this Speed Interval Treadmill Workout

First of all, what exactly do I mean when I say – Speed Interval. Essentially, it’s idea of going up and down in the speed of your workout. You run hard for 30-60 seconds, then walk for 3 minutes. This is exactly the type of workout I want to layout for you to use the next time you run on your treadmill. It’s time to get out of the plateau you’re body is going through and put it into calorie burning shock it’s never experienced.

Follow this Speed Interval Workout

  • Warm Up: 3-5 Minutes Walk or Jog
  • Run Interval: 30-60 Seconds Run at 5k Race Pace
  • Rest Interval: 2 Minute Recovery (Walk Pace)
  • Run Interval: 30-60 Seconds Run at 5k Race Pace
  • Rest Interval: 2 Minute Recovery (Walk Pace)
  • Run Interval: 30-60 Seconds Run at 5k Race Pace
  • Rest Interval: 2 Minute Recovery (Walk Pace)
  • Cool Down: 5 Minute Cool Down (Walk or Light Jog Pace) – Cooling down after your workouts is very important.

Well, there you have it. That is a great way to burn some great calories in as little as 15-20 minutes. The nice thing about this workout is it’s flexible.  If you want to lengthen the workout you can easily do it by increasing each intervals time. You’ll be surprised how your body reacts to this.  You’re heart rate will be at a calorie burning rate as well as a recovery rate. That’s a clear indentifier that this workout can really maximize your treadmill workouts.
